Spectacular Sins and Their Global Purpose in the Glory of Christ by John Piper is an excellent read. It is a short book of 121 pages packed full of insights that show the sovereignty of God over sin. Chapters cover such topics as the creation of all things for Him, Why does God permit Satan to live?, how Adam’s sin serves the supremacy of Christ, How the Judgment of God brings joyful acclaim to Christ, etc. Piper concludes the book with a chapter on how God conquered sin through sin. He refers to it as the “suicide of Satan”.
Per John Piper himself, he wrote the book “to build a vision of God into our lives that will not let us down in the worst of times.” Another aim of the book “is not to meet felt needs, but to awaken needs that will soon be felt, and then to save your faith and strengthen your courage when evil prevails.” And finally, one last aim “is to show that sin and evil, no matter how spectacular, never nullify the decisive, Christ-exalting purposes of God.”
If you desire a bigger view of an awesome God, this book is for you.
