This little book of 86 pages by Ligon Duncan is an excellent read. “This book considers suffering in the light of the sovereignty of our wise and loving God”. The author attempts to handle the issue of suffering as the Bible does and how God is at work in the middle of our hardships. Suffering is not to be just endured, but comes into our lives for good reasons. “This book prepares believers for hardship when it comes their way. Learning some of the purposes for suffering, how it connects us with our Lord and his people, and what God’s Word says to us in the midst of our pain will enable us to glorify him in the midst of troubling times.”
This book is only 4 short chapters. Chapter titles are “Why Me?” “What is God Up To?” “How Can We Profit from Suffering?” And finally “What Should We Think of Jesus` Suffering?” Each chapter ends with a few discussion questions. This book is well supported by the scriptures.
