I have been thinking about Jeremiah 9:23-24 for a few days: “Thus says the Lord, ‘Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,’ declares the Lord.”
Too often I find my heart boasting in my wisdom, my might, my riches, rather than my God. Truly there can be nothing greater than understanding and knowing God.
Listen to J.I. Packer explain this in Knowing God: “What were we made for? To know God. What aim should we set ourselves in life? To know God…What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, delight and contentment than anything else? Knowledge of God…Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord…What makes life worthwhile is having a big enough objective, something which catches our imagination and lays hold of our allegiance; and this the Christian has in a way that no other person has. For what higher, more exalted, and more compelling goal can there be than to know God?” (pg. 33-34).
What are you boasting in this week?
