Favorite Verses
My “signature” verse is Galatians 2:20 (from 5 years of teaching Nav. 2:7) ~ I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
I love the Gospel of John, Chap. 1
Hebrews 12:1-2 ~ Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Our deceased daughter Julia’s special verse was Psalm 27:13-14. That has become a special one to me also.
13 I certainly believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.
Hobbies
I enjoy cars, I have an XBox and “race” Formula 1, and I practice and self-teach classical guitar. I am also learning Hebrew privately with my mentor, Dr. Gordon Ainsworth, from our previous MI church, Highland Park Baptist Church.
Favorite Books
I enjoy any book on Theology; in particular I studied Ryrie’s Basic Theology for a couple years. I have always enjoyed poetry, specifically some William Blake and Robert Frost. In my earlier days, I have read widely, including books by Thomas Mann (The Glass Bead Game), Hemingway, and Herman Hesse (though I don’t have time or inclination to these any longer), and I like Christian Philosophy – in particular, Francis Schaeffer (The God Who is There, for example).
A Word About Maranatha Bible Church
We have been fortunate in being able to worship in some very solid churches over many years, with some remarkable Teaching Pastors. Maranatha Bible Church has been a gift from the Lord for Meredith and me in many ways – extremely solid preaching and teaching, rich fellowship, and a heartbeat that flows from leadership to equip the body and deepen our love and knowledge of the Gospel. We are so very glad that the Lord has led us here to Maranatha Bible Church.
