Three points to understand The Peril of Riches and the Prize of Redemption
1.  The Danger of Earthly Riches – Vs. 23
.       – Not a statement of evils of wealth
.             Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were very wealthy
.             Joseph of Arimathea – Matthew 27:57
.       – Riches can be an obstacle – Proverbs 30:8-9
.       – Can lead you to believe salvation can be implemented by human effort
.       – Wealth can be a hindrance
.      .      A.  Self-sufficiency – Revelation 3:7
.      .      B.  Total absorption – your possessions possess you – Matthew 6:24
.      .      C.  Sinful greed – obsession – Matthew 13:22
2.  The work of divine grace – Vv. 25-26
.        You don’t get to heaven on the basis of anything you have done – Mark 10:23-24, John 1:10-13, 3:3
3.  The reward for sacrificial discipleship – Vv. 27-30

If money and material possessions are your best friend . . .
then God is not
